みんなの声 What’s up?

Piano is very important to me because when I can play it well I get a sense of achievement. What is piano for you? (M., junior high 1st grade)

Ourania

Hi M. and I am happy to read that piano is so important to you. That’s great.

For me piano is a passion and a way of life. A never-ending process, a source of inspiration, an endless source of imagination and many times my “closest friend” that is always there to help me through in so many different ways during the good and the bad times.
My both parents were musicians so I grow up literally in a music school and I don’t even remember when it was the first time I start learning the piano. It feels that it was always there, always part of my life.
I remember spending all my hours in my parents small music school, I knew all the kids that were coming there and their parents and always I wanted the ones that were the same age as I was to stay longer and play with me in the garden. I was not practicing so much when I was young, but I remember that I was always enjoying accompanying in a young age some easy pieces on the piano that the violin students were playing. That was my first chamber music experience and since then I love playing chamber music and sharing ideas and music making with other colleagues and friends.

Thank you for asking me what piano is to me as you gave me the chance to realize by putting these thoughts on the paper how much this instrument means to me.

Thank you very much for your reply.
It was very interesting to read.
In my case,my mother found me a piano teacher when I was five years old. I don’t remember what I felt when I started playing the piano, but my mother says I was enjoying playing.
I lived in Singapore for three years because of my father’s job. But luckily, I was able to continue studying the piano. I came back to Japan and now I am a junior high school student.
My junior high school has singing contest every year. One student from each class accompanies the song on the piano. We sing one song in the class. There was an audition to choose who plays the piano. There were three students who wants to play the piano my class. This year I was chosen in my class. I was very happy. We’re not sure if the contest will be held because of Coronavirus, but I want to practice hard and do my best.
I would like to say thank you again. It has been great to talk with you.
Best wishes, M.
